About the empty bottle deposit system

Under this arrangement, customers are made to pay a little extra in addition to the price of the beverage/liquor that they buy, and can have the money refunded when they return the container to any store selling beverages/liquor. This arrangement is designed to encourage recycling of empty bottles.

We at Lotte Chilsung Beverage comply with the empty bottle deposit system, starting January 1, 2003, under Articles 12-2 and 12-3,
the Enforcement Rule of the Act on the Promotion of Saving and Recycling of Resources.

Products subject to the empty bottle deposit system and the amount refunded to the customer returning the empty bottles

Amount returned: 100 KRW per bottle (190 ml - 400 ml)

Handling fees separately given to our retailer/wholesalers

※ Handling fee: Expense for storing and transferring empty bottles

We pay up to 10 KRW per bottle to wholesalers/retailers handling empty bottles.

※　“Retailers” refers to those engaging in general retail and retail related to food/beverage/cigarettes under the Korean Standard Industrial Classification (KSIC).

※ 180 mL or 1.0 L juice bottles are not covered by this arrangement, as the relevant handling fee concerning them is paid to the Korea Packaging Recycling Cooperative (KPRC) under Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR).

Major content of empty bottle deposit system

1. Consumers can get their empty bottle money back from any store selling relevant types of beverages/liquor. The store may find it difficult to accept more than 30 empty bottles per day, but you may return the bottles to the store where you bought them with a receipt regardless of the quantity.

2. No relevant retail store may refuse to accept empty bottles subject to this arrangement or ask for a receipt except in the case stated in the foregoing item 1.

3. The return of empty bottles may be done at any time during a store’s opening hours.

4. Where the empty bottles are returned to a wholesaler, they must be sorted according to their manufacturer/importer. No broken bottles may be returned.

Penalty for violators (a fine of not more than 3 million KRW)

- A manufacturer/importer/wholesaler/retailer who does not refund bottle deposit fees

- A manufacturer who does not pay handling fees to a wholesaler/retailer
